Pinal County Sheriff's Office arrested an 18-year-old man in San Tan Valley after he allegedly tried to burn down his house with three family members inside.

Luther Cruz reportedly tried to light a 20-gallon propane tank on fire inside his family's living room on Saturday.

According to PCSO, Cruz had been acting erratically beforehand, poured tequila around the tank and got matches from the kitchen to light it on fire.

Fortunately, family members inside the home were able to restrain him until deputies arrived. Dispatchers on the 911 call were able to hear the struggle before arriving at the home.

Cruz told deputies that he hoped he would die in the fire and had no concern for his family's safety. Family reported him showing signs of instability only lately.

He was booked into jail on charges of attempted murder, arson of an occupied structure, aggravated assault and felony endangerment.
