Queen Creek fire update: Phoenix police officer Jason Stokes injured in blast

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - A Phoenix police officer is recovering after being burned during a fire in Queen Creek.

Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson confirmed Wednesday night Officer Jason Stokes, who works in the South Mountain Precinct, was one of six people injured in the blaze.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials said deputies responded to a call of a fire in a backyard around 9:00 p.m Tuesday night near Cloud and Rittenhouse Roads.

Deputies said when crews arrived, they discovered six people had been burned.

According to MCSO, officials treated four burn victims with second and third degree burns. Two other victims suffered minor burns.

An 11-year-old girl has burns on over 50% of her body, including her face and head.

The homeowner told MCSO that all the victims were sitting around a fire when one person poured gasoline into the fire.

According to MCSO, all victims are related to each another.

Officials are still investigating the incident. It is still being determined if criminal charges will be pursued.
