More than a hundred bees attack a Queen Creek man mowing a neighbor's lawn

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - A Queen Creek man is hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked by bees while he was mowing a neighbor's lawn.

Friends identified him at Jesus Garcia.

Witnesses told ABC15 more than a hundred bees swarmed him.

Rural Metro Fire Department officials said lawn mowers create loud noises and vibrations that sometimes disturb a bee hive, but firefighters could not locate a hive.

"I couldn't even see his face, there were so many bees," said a neighbor, Yesenia Alcala, who was also working at the same home.

She tried to help Garcia, but was also stung several times at the house near Power Road and San Tan Boulevard.

Alcala told ABC15 she ran to the street and flagged down Ronnie Freeman who was passing by the home.

"He had the hose on him," Freeman said, "and then he collapsed."

Fire crews used special foam to knock at least 50 aggressive bees off the man, who was then transported to a hospital.
