QUEEN CREEK, AZ - A suspect was air-lifted to the hospital after he was shot by a Department of Public Safety officer Thursday.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves said the incident that ended near Rittenhouse and Ellsworth roads in Queen Creek involved the department's vehicle theft task force.
No officers were injured.
Officials said officers were following the stolen vehicle for some time before it pulled into a park and the driver met with someone in another vehicle.
Officers moved in to block them and the suspect in the stolen vehicle started to ram into one of the police vehicles.
He then got out of the vehicle and officers fired their weapons, hitting the suspect once in the torso.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and air-lifted to a Valley hospital.
There was no word on the condition or the identity of the suspect.
