MESA, AZ - Just 24 hours after it happened, a Valley woman shares her story of terror avoiding a wrong-way driver in Mesa.
The woman, who's asked to only be identified as Nikki, says the impact of the crash sent glass from her driver's side window shattering everywhere.
"It was all over, it was in my hair, I had scratches all over my arms," she said.
Nikki says the wrong-way jeep looked like it was merging into the oncoming turning lane, but it never stopped.
She made the split-second decision to swerve right.
The back of her moving truck took the brunt of the impact, sending it spinning, saving Nikki and her two passengers.
"Guaranteed he would've hit me head on, I have no doubt in my mind."
She's not sure if it was instinct that saved her, or a bit of divine intervention given that the crash site was bordered on both sides of the road by churches.
"I have a few people in my family who have died so I know I have people looking out for me," Said Nikki.
She's thankful to be alive and that her passengers weren't badly hurt, but she knows the scene will haunt her for a while.
"I feel horrible about it and we'll never know what really happened because he (the other driver) is not here to tell his story."
