Maricopa County Parks and Recreation announced the closure of a popular hiking destination after a deadly bee attack on Thursday.

A man from out of state was reportedly stung more than 1000 times while hiking at Usery Mountain Regional Park and went into cardiac arrest. He died at the hospital.

Since the incident, Merkle Trail, Vista Trail, Area 6 bathrooms and the parking lot area have been closed until further notice while experts locate the bees, the department says.

Officials are asking people nearby to not enter the areas and to instead use other trails that are not marked to be closed.

Closures and other news alerts can be seen online here.
