MESA, AZ - "From smoking, when I was younger, I have those lip pulls and also from the skin dropping, so I just wanted to tighten all of that up," says Mary Jane Hillmer, a patient at Van Dyke Laser & Skin in Paradise Valley.
But, Hillmer didn't want surgery. She already had a surgical facelift 10 years ago.
"You have to understand with surgery, it's very directional. They're going to pull up or pull back and I think we've all seen ladies around town with wrinkles going sideways," says Dr. Susan Van Dyke, a Board Certified Dermatologist and owner of Van Dyke Laser & Skin.
But, Van Dyke says there's a brand new alternative to get rid of those fine lines and wrinkles. It's called Ultherapy and it firms, tightens and lifts with a more natural result.
"The forehead, around the eyes, face, lip, and neck," she explains.
Van Dyke says Ultherapy uses the power of ultrasound technology to target areas of the skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.
It was developed by Ulthera, a company based in Mesa, Arizona. Essentially, Van Dyke says, the procedure is like shrink wrapping your face.
"You want to do the cheek, you want this to pull, you want this to tighten up. One of our goals is to redefine the jaw line," Van Dyke explains.
Hillmer got the procedure just three weeks ago and told us it's not painful, but it is uncomfortable.
"A bit of a prickle, but an intense prickle," Hillmer says.
Still, she says you'll notice an immediate change.
"I could see it when I first came out of there. Some of the wrinkles were gone, definitely tighter through here," Hillmer says.
Then, over the course of three or four months, the procedure forces your body to regenerate new collagen naturally.
Van Dyke says that's when you'll see dramatic results.
