MESA, AZ - Chicago Cubs fans got to enjoy opening game for Spring Training at the new Mesa new stadium Thursday.
The game against the Arizona Diamondbacks was sold out, with over 14,000 fans.
Dianne Keller has been a Cubs fan for 34 years.
“From the time I was 4 or 5, my mother would be ironing and I would sit on the floor and listen to game on radio,” said Keller.
The Cubs have played in Mesa for Spring Training since 1979.
This new stadium cost Mesa $99 million. The project has been in works since 2010.
The stadium is designed to make fans feel just like they're at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
It's the Cactus League's largest Spring Training facility, and even the field is proportionate to the size of its inspiration in Chicago.
