MESA, AZ - A pilot managed to avoid any homes when his homemade helicopter crashed in Mesa on Tuesday.
Joe Goetz, who was uninjured, told ABC15 that this was his second crash in two years.
"It was just an unfortunate situation that turned out for the best," Goetz said.
The helicopter is technically called a Helicycle and was flying from Chandler Municipal to Falcon Field when there was a power failure, according to the Mesa Fire Department.
The hard landing happened just after 2 p.m. near Stapley Drive and Main Street.
Witnesses thought it might hit a home, but as amateur video shows, the pilot was able to maintain enough control.
No one was hurt.
