MESA, AZ - Authorities have a 20-year-old man in custody after he allegedly stabbed a cab driver to death in the restroom of a Mesa Park and Ride location on Saturday.
Steve Berry, spokesman for the Mesa Police Department, identified the victim Sunday as 57-year-old William A. Bishop of Tempe, Ariz.
Bishop was working the overnight shift and waiting for fares near the Park and Ride location near Sycamore and Main when he was attacked Saturday while using the restroom, said Berry.
Ricardo A. Ramirez, 20, is believed to have stabbed Bishop multiple times around 12:41 a.m. in a nearby restroom Saturday.
Bishop was transported to a local hospital where he died, said Berry.
Authorities located the suspect a "short distance" from the crime scene. Witnesses reportedly told police the suspect "made comments about working for Satan and being there to collect souls" prior to the alleged assault, according to a press release.
Ramirez told authorities that he has been drinking and blacked out before the alleged attack, said police. He's been booked on one count of First Degree Homicide.
