Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Mesa.
Authorities were called to the area of Alma School Road just west of Main Street around 3 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting involving officers.

According to a police spokesman, an officer was driving in the area when a man walked into the road and stood in front of his patrol car.
The officer got out of his vehicle and attempted to talk to the man when the suspect started to become aggressive, officials said. During their interaction, the man attempted to "charge: at the officer and the officer fired his weapon in return.
The unidentified suspect is hospitalized in serious condition. It's believed impairment played a role in the incident, authorities said.
The man's name has not been released but police did reveal that he is in his 40s.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area; roads are closed west of the intersection. Check here for the latest traffic updates.
