A 22-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a woman in Mesa.

Mesa police were called to the QuikTrip at Main Street and Val Vista Drive just before midnight on Thursday for a report of a stabbing.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a woman who was stabbed with a knife. 

The victim was able to provide a suspect description and officers were able to locate the suspect, James Narcel Heard nearby.

According to police, the victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition. 

Heard was arrested and later admitted to stabbing the victim. He also admitted to being under the influence of drugs. 

He was charged with attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
