PD: Woman captured after robbing Mesa bank

MESA, AZ - Police say a female suspect in her 50s was taken into custody after robbing a bank in Mesa Friday afternoon.

Landato said officers were called to a Chase bank around 1:40 p.m. after a teller reported a person robbing the bank.

Police said the suspect remained inside the bank while officers surrounded the area.

Landato said the suspect demanded money and indicated that she had a bomb.

Authorities said the woman came out of the bank wrapped in a blanket and officers confronted her.

Police said the suspect did not obey the officers' verbal commands so they deployed multiple bean bag rounds.

Officers said at that point they were able to take the woman into custody with no further issues.

Landato said as of 2:55 p.m. the scene had been secured.

Authorities said the woman was taken into custody for booking.
