PD: Travis Lafel Zah identified as suspect in Mesa murder

MESA, AZ - Police identified a man who is accused of killing his girlfriend Thursday morning in Mesa.

Travis Lafel Zah, 35, was booked on one count of 2nd degree homicide, according to Detective Steve Berry.

Witnesses said they saw a man and woman fighting near Mesa Drive and 2nd Avenue around 11:30 a.m.

They then saw the woman run across the street and collapse in a neighbor's front yard.

Two neighbors reportedly ran over to the woman and tried to save her.

"She had a gash on her neck. I took my shirt off to stop the blood," said Lawrence Gallegos.

"I started chest compressions, but the more I did, the more the blood came out. She was gone, she was gone just boom like that," said Jean Banks.

Berry said police believe they identified the 24-year-old victim but are working to notify family before releasing the name.

Officers took Zah into custody as soon as they arrived on scene.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained during the fight, police said.
