MESA, AZ - Authorities say a purse-snatching suspect and her 12-year-old son were taken into police custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in the East Valley Friday night.
Mesa police spokesman Steve Berry said the incident started around 7 p.m. at a Walmart near Southern Avenue and Superstition Springs Boulevard.
Berry said a shopper caught the suspect, identified Saturday as a 36-year-old woman, stealing her purse from her shopping cart. Berry said the woman chased the suspect and after a short scuffle, was able to grab her purse back.
Authorities said after the scuffle, the suspect jumped in her pickup truck and took off.
Berry said Mesa police arrived on scene and alerted all law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the truck.
The Department of Public Safety spotted the suspect's truck on the Loop 202 and chased the vehicle at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
The woman and her son eventually stopped at a Target near Power Road and the US 60 and ran into the store.
Mesa police were able to locate the suspect and her son inside and take them into custody.
Berry said the woman faces charges of theft, felony flight and endangerment.
The boy was released to the custody of his father.
ABC15 is not releasing the name of the woman as she has not yet been formally charged.
