MESA, AZ - Police say a Mesa woman is in critical condition after she was apparently attacked by her son who later killed himself.
Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato said the incident happened around 10: 25 a.m. at a mobile home park near Main Street and Higley Road.
Landato said police found the woman in her 40's badly injured from what appeared to be gunshot and stab wounds.
Authorities said after a standoff that lasted several hours, police found who they believe to be the woman's son shot to death in another home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police identified the man as 21-year-old ASU student, Mark Taro. Taro lived on campus and was visiting his mother, Landato said.
Police said they do not know what motivated the assault.
