Mesa SWAT Officers help rescue man pinned in rollover crash

MESA, AZ - Two Mesa police officers are being called heroes after lifting an SUV off of a trapped driver with a little help from some good Samaritans.

SWAT officers Jake Harris and Leo Davila were returning from a training session heading eastbound on Loop 202 near McClintock when they witnessed a rollover crash in the opposite lanes, according to the City of Mesa Police Department Facebook page .

"We could tell it was a serious accident," said Harris.

The two officers pulled off the road, jumped over the median and gathered some citizens to help rescue the man, Mesa police said.

"He was in pain, saying the car was crushing his chest," Davila remembered.

They tried using a car jack to lift the SUV, but that didn't work.  By now a small group of people had pulled over to help, and with brute force and adrenaline they lifted the vehicle off the driver, setting him free and saving his life.

"It wasn't just us, those citizens jumped in to help without hesitation," said Harris.

"It doesn't matter if you are a cop or not," said Davila. "It's just good people who say the are going to help someone out."
