MESA, AZ - Authorities in Mesa have released tapes of the 911 call of a man whose teenage stepson is accused in a killing.
16-year-old boy Michael Roy Helms is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. He's accused of killing his mother, concealment of a dead body and tampering with evidence.
Bond has been set a $1 million for both Helms and his 17-year-old friend Christian Lee Blakely, who is accused of helping to cover up the murder
The name of the stepfather is redacted from a 911 recording released Monday by Mesa police.
He says the teen hit him in the head with a frying pan when he came home on Oct. 26.
Police later found the body of 36-year-old Tina Helms Spencer in a backyard shed at the family's property.
Authorities believe Spencer was struck with a frying pan and a hammer and also was choked.
