Mesa police: Crash leaves 2 dead, 2 seriously injured

MESA, AZ - Authorities say two people are dead and two others seriously injured after two vehicles collided in Mesa and one of them caught fire.

Mesa Fire Department officials say the accident occurred Wednesday morning near Ellsworth and Warner roads.

Police say the SUV rolled over and caught on fire and two people in that vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

Air15 video showed one vehicle overturned on the side of a road with a red tarp covering it.

Due to the damage and fire from the accident, police say the identities of the SUV's driver and passenger are being withheld until relatives can be notified.

The two people in the other vehicle were transported to a Mesa hospital.

Police investigators still are trying to determine what caused the accident, but they say it appears one vehicle crossed the road's median and ran into the other.
