Police: Woman, girl found dead inside Mesa home

MESA, AZ - Police are investigating after a woman and young girl were found dead inside an East Valley residence Monday afternoon.

Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato said a man called 911 around 3:30 p.m. after finding a 45-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl dead inside his home near McKellips and Ellsworth roads.

Authorities said a man found the two bodies inside the home. Officials said the man is cooperative with police.

Air15 video showed multiple police vehicles and officers near the scene, which was surrounded by yellow caution tape.

According to Landato, police are not actively looking for any suspects and said the neighborhood is safe.

One neighbor said the area is usually quiet. James Daniels has lived across the street from the scene for several years. He said, "I've never even seen a police car out here other than patrolling."

Daniels said the he and his wife were heartbroken over the news. "I hate to hear something happened to anyone but you're talking about a twelve year old kid," Daniels said.

An investigation into the deaths is ongoing.

Details as to the relationship between the two victims or the circumstances surrounding their deaths has not been released.
