PHOENIX - Five people are in custody after authorities raided a suspected immigrant drop house in Phoenix.
Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department said 12 people were found inside a drop house-type situation near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix.
Police say four men and one woman were arrested. They face various charges including kidnapping, human smuggling, possession of narcotic drugs, theft by extortion and firearms violations.
Berry said Mesa police received a phone call Thursday evening regarding people possibly being held against their will at a Valley home. Police found the suspects and victims at a home in Phoenix.
Berry said there were two victims being held against their will at the home. He said the smugglers agreed to bring the victims to the U.S. for a fee, then once they had the immigrants in the country demanded more money.
The victims' relatives contacted police and detectives were able to track the victims to the house in Phoenix.
Berry said that during a search of the home six pounds of heroin and one pound of cocaine were found along with two handguns.
