MESA, AZ - Every afternoon, buses pick up and drop off kids in a quiet Mesa neighborhood, but one Valley mom says there's a hidden danger close by.
Stacee Magee has seven children. Her oldest, now in high school has been approached by a level two sex offender living in their neighborhood.
"He lives behind them, and then over a couple houses, it's very near the bus stop," she said.
ABC15 checked, and confirmed the man served more than five years for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl.
"It's scary that this guy has talked to my daughter, that they're dropping the kids off right in front of him. They're like 'here…here's a smorgasbord of kids, good luck,'" she said.
Magee said she's tried throughout the year to get her daughter's bus stop changed.
"I've called the district several times complaining about it, and asked them to move the bus stop," Magee said.
State statutes prohibit sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and churches, but there's no regulations pertaining to bus stops.
"They essentially said they don't take those things into consideration when they route the busses," she said.
She hopes that sharing her story and her frustration will cause the district to take action.
"Maybe it's just a lack of communication and now that it's been brought to their attention, I have high hopes that they will say 'oh my gosh, this is a potential issue and let's take care of it,'" she said.
