MESA, AZ - The Mesa Public School District is conducting their own investigation after several students were given moldy and expired food for lunch.
"It was hard like rubber," said parent Vanessa Mitchell.
Mitchell was on a class field trip with her daughter who goes to Adams Elementary School. Three classes of students took a field trip to the Mesa Art Museum. A brown bag lunch, which was provided by the school, was given to all the students.
"They were hard and there was green mold on the sandwich. The teachers immediately told to students to stop eating," said Mitchell.
According to officials with the Mesa School District, the lunches were immediately thrown away. The students were brought back to Adams Elementary to get lunch.
The district is now investigating what procedures were breached. They will analyze procedures and retrain employees once they discover what mistakes were made.
