MCSO: Woman injured trying to break up dog fight at Mesa home

MESA, AZ - Authorities say a Mesa woman was taken to the hospital after being attacked by one of her dogs Friday night.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Brandon Jones said the incident happened near 85th Street and Hawes Road.

Jones said the woman was trying to break up a fight between her pit bull and rottweiler when one of the dogs bit the woman in the left forearm.

Witnesses told ABC15 it looked like the bite went all the way through the victim's arm.

Neighbor Priscilla Whearty said the woman was airlifted to the hospital to be treated for her injuries, which according to Jones, are non-life-threatening at this time.

Authorities said the dogs are currently contained at the owner's home. Animal Care and Control went to the home, but couldn't get in without the owner's approval.

Whearty told ABC15, the owner calls the dogs "her babies" and walks them all the time. According to Whearty, the dogs have never appeared aggressive.

The victim has not been identified at this time.
