Mesa police are cracking down on drunken drivers this Labor Day weekend.

Starting Friday and going through Monday, officers will be conducting Labor Day Task Force DUI patrols in Mesa. Emphasized hours will be from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Monday. Saturation patrols will take place on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

They will also focus on areas around the Salt River and Saguaro Lake, expecting many people to celebrate the holiday weekend on the water.

Mesa's efforts are in line with funding from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Other cities around the metro area and state will have their eyes on drivers this holiday weekend, too.

Deputies from Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will active on Lake Pleasant looking for unsafe boaters.

AAA is offering its free Tipsy Tow service on Monday into Tuesday morning for those who need a safe ride home, including a tow of their vehicle.

During the service period, drivers, passengers, party hosts, bartenders and/or restaurant managers can call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357), state that they need a “Tipsy Tow,” provide the driver’s name, home address, phone number and vehicle/driver location.
