Hospital donations stolen from Mesa Walgreens

MESA, AZ - Mesa police are searching for a man and woman who stole a donation jar meant for sick children.

It happened at a Mesa Walgreens store at the corner of Alma School and Guadalupe roads last week.

The money in the jar would have gone to the kids at Cardon Children's Medical Center.

Police said the man came to the counter with some items, distracted the clerk and took off with the donation jar and other merchandise. A woman was waiting outside and the couple drove off in an unknown direction.

"I'm appalled," said Diane, a Walgreens customer. She tried to give the couple the benefit of the doubt. "With the economy the way it is, they probably needed it."

It is unclear how much money was in the jar.

On Tuesday, authorities released surveillance video of the suspects.

Police said the man is in his late 20s, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with sleeve tattoos on both forearms. He was wearing a black baseball cap, possibly with an ASU logo, and white shoes with black laces.

The woman is described as about 5 feet 5 inches tall with blonde hair, wearing torn blue jean shorts.

The were seen driving away in a 4-door silver Honda compact car, possibly a Honda Fit.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Mesa Police Department.
