Family of Victoria Gameros 'devastated' by loss of daughter in Mesa murder-suicide

MESA, AZ - The family of a 22-year-old woman killed last weekend in Mesa in what police are calling a murder-suicide has released a statement remembering their daughter.

Authorities said Victoria Gameros was shot and killed by her boyfriend, 25-year-old Jonathan Vargas, on April 13 in the parking lot of Poston Junior High School. Vargas then turned the gun on himself, according to police.

The family of Gameros said their daughter worked as Well Fargo Bank and has graduated from Westwood High School.

"Our daughter Victoria was a beautiful person inside and out. Everyone that met or knew her, knew her as a kind and giving person. She touched many people's hearts in the short time she lived," the statement read.

Gameros has a younger brother and sister, Daniel and Adriana.

"Victoria always brightened my heart and we will miss her forever and ever," the statement said. "I want to thank everyone for their prayers and may God be with all -- The Gameros Family."

Authorities said the couple was living together and had been dating for two years.

A fund has been set up at all Wells Fargo branches under Victoria's name.
