Family of man murdered in Mesa wants your help

$1,000 reward offered for information

MESA, AZ - The family of a man killed in Mesa nearly 5 years ago is asking for the community's help.

They're hoping someone knows who killed a loving father, brother and all around "good guy."

Randolph Lucero was found dead in his apartment near E. University Drive and Power Road on a county island east of Mesa five years ago.

Jan. 27, 2007 is the date Randolph's daughter will never forget.

"I was on the phone with him around midnight on the 26th," said Chantelle Lucero. "They said the time of death was not long after that."

Lucero's stereo was on at the time his daughter recalls.

That was typical for the fun loving, sociable man.

But his music may have kept others from hearing the assault that took place in his small apartment.

Blunt force trauma was the cause of death.

An amateur boxer, Lucero could hold his own in a fight, but he was recovering from hernia surgery.

"Someone knew his condition," said Chantelle. "He couldn't hit back very well."

Nobody seems to know who would want Lucero dead.

He was a car salesman for many years in Mesa and had recently found his way into the loan business.

Perhaps a client grew angry or his larger-than-lifer personality rubbed someone the wrong way.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the family will host a candlelight vigil just outside his former apartment at 6521 E. University Drive.

"He always made people smile," Chantelle said. "He was the life of the party but would do anything for any of us."
