A Mesa hotel owner is claiming thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry were stolen from his property Sunday.

It was supposed to be a quiet day for American Executive Inn. But that all changed when a group of women walked into the hotel’s lobby asking to see several rooms. According to owner David Ahir, the manager agreed and locked the office.

"My partner, who is also the manager, went to show them the rooms and they tried to keep to keep him busy. All of a sudden, he got a phone call from some other motels that hey these people, they’re out to rob the manager’s office or apartment," said Ahir.

According to Ahir, that’s exactly what happened. Security footage shows a pair gaining access to an apartment above the lobby. You then see a woman leave with what Ahir calls a safe full of the valuables.

The alleged burglars made off before they could be stopped. Mesa Police made a report and will investigate further during the week.
