MESA, AZ - A suspect was booked on 17 counts of criminal damage after allegedly slashing tires in a Mesa neighborhood early Wednesday morning.
According to Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato, officers received a report of suspects slashing tires at the Garden Place Apartments complex near the US 60 and Alma School Road just before 4:30 a.m.
An officer was nearby, arrived less than a minute later and found two men matching the description. The men separated and ran, Landato said.
After a short foot pursuit, two men were taken into custody, Landato said.
One of the men, Nicholas James Rourke, 22, admitted to slashing tires on several vehicles and said he did it because he was upset about losing money, Landato said.
Rourke was reportedly intoxicated and cut his hand while puncturing the tires.
The other suspect, a 30-year-old man, was released after questioning.
Rourke was booked in connection with 17 counts of criminal damage.
A total of 17 vehicles, including a motorcycle, received tire damage.
