Thieves continue to rummage through unlocked vehicles in Gilbert neighborhood

GILBERT, AZ - Thieves have hit a Gilbert neighborhood, again, gaining entry into vehicles and stealing valuables , according to police.

Jesse Sanger, spokesman for the Gilbert Police Department, said it appears that three or more juveniles or young adults are rummaging through vehicles with unlocked doors in a neighborhood near Recker and Warner roads.

Police said a few of the vehicles sustained damage, including slashed tires, a broken windshield and arson.

Sanger said it appears that the individuals are walking through the neighborhood between 3-5 a.m. and checking door handles in search of unlocked vehicles.

Officials said at least 9 incidents of theft have already been reported.

Gilbert police will be increasing patrols around the neighborhood, said Sanger.

Authorities would like to remind people to lock their vehicles and to not leave valuables inside them.
