Parents of Perry High School students are being alerted to an arrest after threats were made to the school.

Gilbert police say a juvenile male student was taken into custody for creating a hoax and disrupting an educational institution, both felony offenses.

Police said the threats made by the student were initially vague but additional information police received led to the arrest.

At this time it appears the student acted alone, there is no information that other students are making threats against the school, police said.

Two letters emailed by the principal over the weekend address what started as social media rumors. The most recent letter says the Gilbert Police Department has arrested and detained a student for continuing to make threatening comments on social media.

Parents tell ABC15 the threats were about a school shooting.

School will be in session as scheduled Monday with an increased presence from police. Parents are asked to talk to their kids about the seriousness of making threatening comments.
