Possible norovirus sickens 200+ at Gilbert school

PHOENIX - Gilbert Public School District officials are asking a state laboratory to determine if a norovirus sickened hundreds of students at an elementary school.

Phoenix radio station KTAR reports that more than 200 students at Augusta Ranch Elementary in Gilbert were sent home sick this week along with five adults.

One student and one teacher were tested for norovirus.

Thursday was the final day of the school year for Augusta Ranch Elementary.

Norovirus is highly contagious and can be deadly for both infants and the elderly.

Symptoms include stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting but typically fade in 48 hours.
