GILBERT, AZ - An off-duty Gilbert police officer with his three children in the car hit the side of a church in Gilbert Wednesday morning.
According to the Gilbert Fire Department, the father was in his car with his children when his vehicle “skimmed” the side of the Victory Tabernacle Pentecostal church on Lindsay Road and Mesquite Street around 10 a.m.
According to fire officials, the driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The driver was taken out of the back of the vehicle, because the driver’s door was up against a wall. No other passengers or individuals in the church were injured, according to officials.
Gilbert Police Department tweeted that the cause of the accident was not known at the time.
There was minor damage done to the church building according to officials, but the structure of the church will be checked for structural integrity.
