PD: Man shot twice in Gilbert during attempted mugging

GILBERT, AZ - A man was shot twice Saturday evening after two men approached him and demanded his wallet, said police.

Jesse Sanger, spokesman for Gilbert police, said the man was picking up his friend near Guadalupe Road and Val Vista Drive around 10 p.m. when he was approached by two men.

The men demanded the driver hand over his wallet. When he refused, they shot him twice, once in the elbow, he said. The man was taken to Scottsdale Osborne hospital by ambulance.

The suspects are still outstanding, according to authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
