Two people hit by car in Gilbert; one killed

GILBERT, AZ - Gilbert officials are investigating a deadly crash involving two pedestrians.

According to Gilbert fire crews, two women were hit by a vehicle near Elliot and Val Vista on Thursday morning.

Gilbert police said a 49-year-old woman and 53-year-old woman were jogging in the area when they were hit by a vehicle. 

The 49-year-old woman, Carrie Brown, has been pronounced dead. The 53-year-old woman is in the hospital in unknown condition. 

Officials say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision. 

The roadway was closed for several hours and reopened after noon on Thursday. 

Gilbert police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or have more information to call the non-emergency line at 480-503-6500.
