Gilbert father mourns the loss of his entire family in car crash

GILBERT, AZ - A Gilbert father is mourning the loss of his family to a car crash.

Five people died including his three children.

Larry Curley's world changed forever this past Saturday.

His father, Tracy Blackmore, was driving the family home from a trip to Tucson when Department of Public Safety officials say his pickup truck blew a front tire.

Tracy and five other passengers were sent into oncoming traffic on Interstate 10 near Picacho Peak.

The pickup collided with a tractor trailer and another car.

“I'm... I'm burying my whole family,” Curley said Monday.

All three of his children were gone in an instant -- 12-year-old Tyler, 9-year-old Kayla and 7-year-old Brianna Curley.

His 20-year-old sister Danielle, four months pregnant with her first child, also died.

His mom Shelley Blackmore held on for two more hours.

Tracy, Curley's dad, was the only survivor.

“We're a very safe family, and they would always wear seatbelts. But because of that high impact I was told they died instantly,” Curley said, holding back tears.

Pictures and memories are all Curley has left of his three children.

“This is my son, he loved playing baseball,” he said, pointing to a photograph.

His daughters just got back from their last camping trip not long ago. He says they were cheerleaders.

His son Tyler just caught his first fish.

“We did this stuff all the time. We always had smiles like that,” he said looking at the photographs.

Curley said complete strangers ran to help after the car accident.

“I want to tell them thank you,” he said.

His extended family flew in from Kansas City, Missouri to be there for him.

“They were a beautiful family. My sister loved her grand babies, his children,” said Kim Tricarico, Shelley Blackmore’s sister.

Larry's dad is still in the ICU at a local hospital but he's in stable condition.

There is a fund set up at Bank of America to help with funeral costs. It is under the Blackmore and Curley Memorial Fund. Donations can be made at any Bank of America branch location.
