Gilbert accident sends 4 to the hospital

GILBERT, AZ - Gilbert police are investigating a two-car crash that sent an elderly couple and several teens to the hospital Saturday evening.

Part of Lindsey Road near Ray Road was shut down while police investigated the crash.

Police say a PT Cruiser was heading south on Lindsey when it struck a white SUV crossing the roadway.

The 69-year-old female driver of the SUV and the 74-year-old male passenger were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

A 21-year-old was driving the cruiser, and police believe the driver may have been under the influence. The other five passengers were 18 and 19 years old.

Police have cited several of the minors with under-age drinking. Two of the teens have been sent to area trauma hospitals for head and abdominal injuries.

Alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash, according to police.
