Gilbert 23 supporters demand answers from Sen. Jeff Flake

GILBERT, AZ - A group of protestors  gathered on Tuesday morning to demand answers from Senator Jeff Flake about his family's role in the deaths of nearly two dozen dogs.

According to a search warrant, Senator Flake's son Austin and his wife Logan were supposed to be watching over the dogs at the time of their death.

The dogs died while being boarded at Green Acres Kennel in Gilbert.

Austin and Logan Flake were asked to watch over the dogs by the owners of the kennel Jesse and Melissa Hughes.

The owners of the kennel said the dogs died after one of them chewed through a wire and cut off power to the buildings air conditioning.

A search warrant though a veterinarian found no evidence that any of the dogs were electrocuted.

Instead the search warrant suggests that the shelter provided inadequate shelter for the animals, no medical treatment and too small rooms.

The search warrants also said that the dogs were subjected to animal cruelty.

Officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said they are still investigating. No charges have been filed against either the owners of the kennel or the Flake’s.
