GILBERT, AZ - Officials were able to stop a wrong-way driver in the East Valley early Thursday morning.
According to DPS, a wrong-way driver was reported traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near the Loop 202 and McQueen Road just after 3:30 a.m.
DPS said they first received a 911 call of a person passed out at the wheel, the caller said the vehicle sat at the intersection of Alma School and the Loop 202 while the intersection's traffic lights cycled twice.
While DPS was en route a caller reported the driver traveling the wrong way on the Loop 202.
DPS said they did not pursue the driver, but DPS did use stop sticks to stop the vehicle. The 24-year-old female driver eventually stopped near Val Vista Road and was arrested.
The woman was driving the wrong-way for about 10 minutes, DPS said.
DPS used a traffic break along the Loop 202 east of Val Vista Road to bring traffic to a stop.
There are no reports of any other injuries or crashes as a result of this incident.
Impairment is currently under investigation.
