Outrage sparks online after a donation page surfaced for a Gilbert couple sentenced in the death of more than 20 dogs at their kennel back in 2014.

People took to a community group on Facebook to voice their anger that someone created a donation page for MaLeisa and Jessie Hughes, the owners of the Green Acre boarding facility. In 2012, 23 dogs died after the air conditioning failed in the middle of the night.

The donation page says the family needs help to rebuild; they’re hoping to raise $50,000.

Just two weeks ago, the couple was sentenced to 60 days in jail each, along with community service, fines and six years of probation.

"There was no sympathy," said Heather Wicker, a customer whose dog died during the incident. "There was no apology whatsoever in that letter to us. It was a huge slap in the face.

"We lost our dogs," said David Gillette, another victim. "We lost our family members. They're gone, and they're never going to come back."

The family member who started the donation page wrote on the page that the family made mistakes, and that this was a terrible accident. But the incident has taken a toll on their family to the point of even getting death threats.

They say the Hughes family is just trying to get back on their feet.
