GILBERT, AZ - The Gilbert Public School Board voted unanimously Monday night to approve a tax break for Apple.
Apple announced earlier this month plans to move into the Valley. They want to purchase the currently vacant First Solar building in east Mesa.
The company would pump $1 billion in improvements into the facility and in exchange the technology company wants a lower percentage assessed for tax.
"You know we're very pleased that the Gilbert schools has voted unanimously to support the foreign trade zone and support Apple coming to Mesa which will be a big boom for not only Mesa and Gilbert but the entire Valley and the state of Arizona," said Mesa Mayor Scott Smith.
The Gilbert School Board was the last of eight Valley government agencies that had to approve the plan.
