GILBERT, AZ - Fourteen people have been arrested and many more arrests are expected after a seven-month long drug and stolen property investigation centered in Gilbert.
Gilbert along with Chandler, Mesa and Tempe police all worked together and executed search warrants at four locations Wednesday morning uncovering stolen property like guns, bikes and other items along with heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana.
Three of the locations are homes in Gilbert near Gilbert and Elliot Road, the other is an apartment in Chandler. Tuesday, two other homes in Phoenix were busted that are also connected to the investigation.
Sgt. Jesse Sanger of Gilbert Police said that residents in the neighborhoods were sick of the crime that was taking place and were instrumental to taking down this ring.
Residents near one of the homes said they've seen a transient type of crowd near the home. Another home around the corner had a truck full of marijuana that you could smell when you got next to it.
Richard Washburn said he wasn't surprised the house near him was busted.
"So many people coming and going. It just seemed like an In-N-Out Burger or something. People were just coming in and out, in and out," Washburn told ABC15.
Police said the victims of the theft span across the Valley and include residential, business and vehicle break-ins.
It is unclear how many people may be involved in this ring. Police said one of those arrested today has been released.
ABC15 spoke to a tenant of one of the homes who said the owners opened their doors to the homeless community, to people like herself.
But Gilbert police said the owners were selling drugs out of the home.
They say the investigation is ongoing.
