CHANDLER, AZ - Police say a 15-year-old boy riding a scooter has died after he was hit by a truck in Chandler Monday night.
The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday near Arizona Avenue and Knox Road.
Chandler police spokesman Seth Tyler said Julian Gonzvar was struck by the southbound truck while crossing Arizona Avenue.
Tyler said Gonzvar was crossing the street with a group of other juveniles who all made it safely across the street.
According to Tyler, witnesses said the truck entered the intersection on a green light.
Authorities said speed or impairment do not appear to be a factor at this time.
No charges will be filed against the driver.
Gonzvar's school district released the following statement:
"Julian was "well lighthearted, funny, and well liked. The entire campus has been and will be impacted by this tragedy. We have initiated a plan to deal with the loss and regain focus on daily learning as soon as possible. Our counselors and teachers are available to offer our students and families additional attention and support as indicated; we also encourage families to seek out additional support from the community service providers."
