Police ID boy killed in weekend Chandler wreck

CHANDLER, AZ - Police have identified an 11-year-old boy killed in a Chandler accident early Saturday morning.

Chandler police spokesman Seth Tyler said Alexander Katsaros died Saturday afternoon from injuries suffered in the accident that happened at Warner and McQueen roads around 2 a.m.

Police say the suspect, 30-year-old David Wiggins, remains hospitalized, and upon his release will be booked into jail on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of felony flight from law enforcement.

Alexander's 7-year-old brother, Christopher, was seriously injured in the crash. The boys' father, Gregory Katsaros, was treated and released from the hospital.

The accident happened after police began following Wiggins when he left a bar near Alma School and Knox Roads, Tyler said.

Officers tried to stop Wiggins but eventually lost sight of him in a Gilbert neighborhood. A perimeter was set up and an officer positioned on the perimeter heard the collision and found Wiggins' car involved in the crash.

Tyler said officers believe Wiggins was impaired at the time.
