Two Chandler businesses were damaged Sunday night after each business fell victim to a false reporting call that turned out to be a prank, according to Chandler police.
The first incident occurred at the Hampton Inn, located near Spectrum Boulevard and Price Road. The unidentified caller contacted a hotel employee and told the worker to activate the fire sprinklers which resulted in significant damage to the entire hotel, according to the Chandler Police Department.
The second incident occurred at a McDonald's restaurant, located near McQueen and Pecos roads. The caller convinced an employee to activate the fire suppression equipment above the fryers. The employee was then told to attempt to break a glass door in an effort to vent the restaurant.
The worker was not able to break the glass door, but did activate the fire suppression equipment.
Once the workers had activated the fire protection systems, the caller told the workers that they had been pranked and hung up.
The Chandler Police reminds people to verify that any action they perform will not result in harm to anybody or destroy any property.
