Man in Chandler dead after bail bondsmen shooting

CHANDLER, AZ - A suspect was shot and killed by a bail bondsmen in Chandler on Friday.

Officials said the shooting happened on Gilbert Road south of Chandler Boulevard.

According to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the bail bondsmen are a father and son.

They were identified on Saturday as 36-year-old Nathan Wallace and 72-year-old Oren Wallace.

The suspect was identified as 59-year-old Donald Richard Johnson.

Arpaio said Johnson was wearing a bullet-proof vest and had a semi-automatic weapon.

He said other weapons were found inside the house.

The bail bondsmen were trying to arrest Johnson after he failed to appear in court for a warrant on aggravated harassment.

Arpaio said it is possible the man's mother was in the home at the time of the shooting.

He added that the suspect had cameras placed around the property.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident which happened in a county island area of Chandler.
