CHANDLER, AZ - Fourth grader Kylie Smith, of Chandler, may seem to be your typical 9-year-old, but it's the song in her heart that makes her extraordinary.
Kylie has been playing the piano since the age of 3 and 1/2. This week she got a chance to show her stuff at a prestigious music event in California.
The annual National Association of Music Merchants Show is a trade type show where it seems everyone in the music industry worldwide is watching.
Kylie, a student of the East Valley Yamaha Music School. The Yamaha schools only invited three performers in the nation to attend for the Junior Original Concert at the show.
"I'm a little nervous," she said. "I love to play my own original music. It is like you are telling a story with the music."
Kylie explains that she practices at least an hour a day if not more. The program is a rigorous one that requires a lot of dedication from both the parents and the student.
Kylie performed one of her original works at the show Thursday.
