Keeping children safe in school zones

CHANDLER, AZ - As school starts for most Valley School Districts the focus is on safety.
At Chandler's Hartford Elementary School, crossing guard Craig Boettcher knows the dangers all too well that are present at every school.
"I've almost been hit three times," he said.  "It is amazing how many people will be texting as they go through here."
He said the biggest issues are drivers not paying attention and parents rushing either dropping their kids off in the wrong spot or not waiting for him to help them cross safely.
The speed limit in school zones in 15 miles per hour and there is no passing.  Fines double.
