A Chandler tenth grader is making international headlines as one of only four students in the world to get a perfect score on the AP Psychology exam last May.
Riya Patel attends BASIS Chandler. She said she didn’t do anything too special, she just studied a lot and really enjoys the subject. When she is not acing tests, she is using her love of learning to help girls in low-income countries access education.
“When she goes on and has kids then her daughters will for sure get an education,” said Patel. “It kind of helps to break that cycle of poverty.”
Patel is also on the varsity swim team, debate team and member of the science club. She doesn’t know what she wants to do for a career just yet, but is considering law, engineering or medicine.
